Grand Junction, Colorado is finding it’s place on the map again with President Barack Obama headed to Grand Junction for a town hall meeting on health care.
The president won’t be here until Saturday, but as of today (Wednesday), things are already heating up, and a lot of the action can be seen online on social media sites like Twitter.
I was fairly impressed with CNN for reaching out to our local Grand Junction Twitterers to try to set up interviews regarding the planned town hall event with president Obama. Four days in advance, and they get to have things lined up before the camera crews even set foot in our town. That’s impressive.
What’s even more impressive is how CNN found us. Look at the screen capture above. See the #gjco? This is a hastag that our local Grand Junction Twitterers set up to identify local traffic, and keep each other in the loop. Do you see how CNN used the #gjco hashtag as well? CNN recognized how we used the #gjco hashtag, and joined in on the conversation.
This is the power of #gjco, and hashtags in general. It’s a way to localize your message to a succinct group of people that want to hear your message, or communicate with you and your friends.
So if you’re in Grand Junction, Colorado, or just passing through, feel free to add #gjco to the end of all your tweets. We’d love to hear from you.
And remember to keep an eye on CNN for @BonnieRN’s interview.
