As many of you might (or might not) be aware, but Twitters down… and without the great big “Fail Whale” that you normally get when Twitter is having problems.
This time, the issue is a little bit more serious… according to Twitters original status updates, all they could say was : “Site is Down”. They later went on to update us that they were in the midst of a DOS attack.
FaceBook experienced delays, a short outage, and links not working. There are reports that FaceBook is looking into this problem, which in itself probably means that they know something’s going on, but they aren’t addressing it publicly yet. Time will tell.
LiveJournal reportedly also had some downtime as well this morning.
I found a link at one point this morning that indicated that there was a link with Verio or Amazon Web Services that was the problem, and would be effecting several social media sites. I couldn’t confirm this link, because it was posted in FaceBook, and FaceBook was having an issue with internal links at the time.. go figure!
As of right now (9:45 MST) Twitter is back up, and appears to have recovered from this DOS attack… for now. FaceBook is allowing me to update status, and check out links… maybe I’ll go find that Verio link that didn’t work before.
EDIT: (9:47 MST – 2 minutes later) Twitter is having more problems… I suspect that the worst is over, but just remember that there really is more to life than online social media… even for an online addict like myself.
EDIT: (9:52 MST) FaceBook is down… I’m seriously thinking there is a link. Good luck to all of their IT staff… it’s gonna be a really long day for them.
