I’m not normally a big fan of checking out of a store and being asked if I would like to donate to a certain cause. Partly for the inconvenience and hassle of finding a dollar to put on in the can.
But I was recently shopping at PetCo (getting bloodworms for our dragon fish), and at the end of the transaction, I was asked “would you like to round up your donation to the Humane Society to the nearest dollar? ”
Round up my donation to the nearest dollar? I instantly said yes, and realized that this was an absolutely fascninating way to get people to make donations.

No hassle, no guilt. I was paying in cash, so I wouldn’t even have change in my pockets to deal with. It was truly a win-win situation.
The idea here is that they feel that donations to the Humane Society are very important. And to get the most out of it, they are making it easy for people to donate.
It automatically populates the checkers screen, and gets written on your receipt.
Easy as pie!
That’s how you need to treat every situation for your company. Make every step of the way “Easy As Pie” for your customer.
The easier it is to get in the door, get help with what they need, to find the products they need, to special order supplies..
what ever the customer needs – You make it easy, and they will want to go no where else. They will be your customer for life. Just make it easy.
